Francis Favorini[Edit Page]
Information Technology Director
I wear several computing-related hats at BIAC. As network administrator, I maintain BIAC's network of Windows and Unix-based computers. As software developer, I have written some of our data analysis applications and tools using MATLAB and C++, as well as the web-based scanner calendar and database. I also handle the more mundane tasks of creating user accounts and issuing keys.
I am usually working on several projects for BIAC. The Biomedical Informatics Research Network (BIRN) is large-scale, multi-institution distributed imaging database. Duke is one of several participants in this NCRR initiative to facilitate wide-ranging collaboration in data analysis. I am responsible for the configuration and operation of a rack of BIRN equipment, including several compute nodes, 4 TB of disk space and 8 TB of tape.
I am also involved in the VISN 6 MIRECC doing network administration, web site development and webcasting.
