BIAC Faculty Affiliate, Dr. Wayne Feng, and his team were highlighted by the Duke University School of Medicine for building one of the nation’s top-quality stroke programs here at Duke. His team focuses on utilizing non-invasive brain stimulation tools to treat post-stroke complications. Through methods such as low-intensity intensity focused ultrasound stimulation (LIFUS) and repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS), Feng and his team are transforming stroke recovery and offering hope to stroke survivors. 

BIAC faculty, Dr. Dan Ma, was recently highlighted in The Duke Daily for transforming medical imaging with "MR fingerprinting". By varying magnetic signals, this technique captures the body's inner landscape in a single scan to create unique "fingerprints" of tissues.  This exciting technique not only captures what traditional MRI may miss, but can speed up imaging and improve patient experience at the MR scanners.

Congratulations to Devon Overson, PhD, for successfully defending his Doctoral Dissertation titled "Use of Diffusion Magnetic Resonance Imaging for Detection of Early Neurodegeneration in At-Risk Individuals for Alzheimer's Disease.” Dr. Overson’s study focused on using diffusion MRI to detect early neurodegeneration within Alzheimer's Disease.

Dr. Jenna Merenstein and BIAC researchers use column-based, depthwise profile analyses, to investigate the role of cortical iron in age-related differences in fluid cognition and functional brain connectivity in healthy aging.

Please join us in welcoming Dr. Dan Ma as a core faculty member with BIAC. She began her tenure at Duke on January 1st as an Associate Professor in the Departments of Neurosurgery and Biomedical Engineering. Dr. Ma’s research focuses on the development and clinical translation of innovative MRI technologies aimed at enhancing the understanding, diagnosis, and treatment of various diseases.

Congratulations to Jenna for winning 1st place for her poster at the annual Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences Research Day! Jenna’s poster was titled, “Standard and high-resolution diffusion imaging of cortical disconnection in Alzheimer’s disease.”
